  1. Proper use of the organ pedals, from basic concepts like proper posture to more advanced performance techniques.

  1. Basic (and not-so-basic) keyboarding technique.

  1. How to use the organ’s built-in rhythms and orchestral accompaniments.  Of course, the first lessons involve learning to keep steady time and play along with the rhythms.  Then, club members learn how to use split keyboards to control the key of the orchestral accompaniments in the left hand while playing the melody in the right.  Eventually, they learn to perform an entire piece of music with a full band or orchestra accompanying them!

  2. How to select the perfect rhythm(s) for a particular piece of music.  Having learned to play along with a rhythm and accompaniment, the next step is to decide which one to choose!  Learning about different time signatures, beat accents, and other accompaniment patterns can make it a easier to decide.

  1. How to use and combine the various instrumental voices on the organ for use in performance.  Each orchestral instrument has a particular “range” in which it sounds best – a tuba doesn’t do so well in the piccolo range!  Also, certain combinations of instruments tend to sound well together.  Learning a little bit about the various instruments makes it easier to decide which ones to choose for a particular piece of music.

  1. How to save customized “registrations” on the organ or on a disk, which allows users to instantly recall a specific setup: rhythm, instruments, tempo, custom settings, etc.  Finding a perfect combination of sounds and rhythms for a specific piece of music is great, but being able to load the same combination every time with the touch of a button makes performing so much easier!
